Be Part of a National Ministry with Eternal Impact

5/5

Many of our volunteers are walking through grief themselves—whether it’s the loss of a baby or grandbaby in Heaven, or a beloved spouse, parent, or friend. Making cradles can be a healing way to honor a baby or loved one's memory and extend compassion to others who are hurting.

Every cradle is made with a little yarn and a lot of love.

Journey of a Cradle

Bridget’s Cradles was born out of one family’s deepest grief and greatest love. In 2014, Bridget Faith was born into Heaven at 24 weeks gestation. Too small and fragile for traditional baby blankets or clothing, Bridget’s grandma, Teresa Golik, knit a tiny cradle to hold her with love and care.

That one cradle sparked a movement of compassion that grew from Bridget's empty nursery into a nonprofit organization serving over 1,600 hospitals in all 50 states.

What began as a family’s way of honoring their daughter has become a ministry reaching over 30,000 grieving families a year—providing them with a cradle to hold their baby, and hope to hold onto in their heartbreak.

How we began...

We provide Christ-centered comfort, hope, and healing to families grieving the loss of a baby in Heaven.

From Heartbreak to Hope: The Story Behind Bridget’s Cradles

About our cradles

As a valued volunteer, you’ll receive updates on your impact and have opportunities to connect with our nationwide team of volunteers.

After we receive and process your cradles, you’ll get a personal email with encouragement and any helpful feedback.

Mail your completed cradles to Bridget’s Cradles in Kansas for final preparation and nationwide distribution.

We’ll then send you our official knitting and crocheting patterns. Once received, you’re ready to begin making cradles to donate!

You’ll receive an email with our Volunteer Policies & Guidelines form. Review and sign it electronically.

To get started, submit your volunteer application below. Please allow 1–3 business days for review.

The Process

We have specific quality standards to ensure every cradle we donate meets the needs of hospitals and grieving families. Cradles exposed to cigarette smoke or containing pet hair cannot be accepted.

Volunteers must use approved yarn types and colors from our provided list, which reflects the preferences of hospitals, families, and memorial photographers.

There are no requirements for how many cradles you make or how often you donate. Each one is a treasured gift that brings comfort to a grieving family and honors a precious life.

We only accept applications from individuals who live within the United States. At this time, we are unable to accept international volunteer applications.

Our official cradle patterns and instructions are exclusively for approved Bridget’s Cradles volunteers and are not available for personal or organizational use outside of our ministry.

FAQs

Knit/Crochet Volunteer

Because of the volume and reach of Bridget’s Cradles, we’re unable to designate cradles for a specific hospital. Each hospital operates on its own donation schedule, and the logistics of collecting and distributing thousands of cradles nationwide make individual designations impossible.

However, we are fully committed to ensuring every cradle reaches a family in need—including those in your area. If we’re not yet supporting your local hospital, please encourage a hospital staff member to submit a request on our website.

Please know that every cradle you make will be deeply cherished by a grieving family. Thank you for your understanding.

We currently provide cradles to 1,600+ hospitals in all 50 states. You can view our most up-to-date list and interactive map of recipient hospitals here. We continue to expand into new cities while also replenishing existing hospital partners.

To ensure consistency and quality across all donations, all cradles must be sent directly to Bridget’s Cradles headquarters in Kansas, where our team carefully inspects, finishes, and coordinates distribution to hospitals nationwide. For this reason, we do not allow volunteers to deliver cradles directly to local hospitals.

When cradles are sent through our headquarters, each one includes a Bridget’s Cradles tag—a booklet that connects families to all the resources our ministry offers. This includes free access to our online and in-person support groups, podcast, blog, community, and more. If cradles are given outside of our process, these families would miss out on these vital resources and the ongoing comfort we provide beyond the hospital.

Our mission is not only to comfort families in their moment of loss but to walk with them in the days, months, and years that follow.

We are so grateful for every volunteer who generously gives their time, talents, and materials to support grieving families. Our shared goal is to provide cradles of the highest quality to honor the precious lives of babies in Heaven.

These quality standards, along with detailed instructions and approved materials, are clearly outlined in the cradle patterns and guidelines each volunteer receives upon joining.

If any cradles do not meet our quality standards, we will provide you with feedback and guidance to help you make any necessary adjustments moving forward. For cradles that are usable but may need minor improvements—such as added stability or adjusted dimensions—we’ll offer suggestions to help ensure your future cradles meet hospital and family needs.

We are committed to transparency and growth, and we’re here to support you in creating beautiful cradles that bring comfort to grieving families.
To ensure consistency and uphold the quality of every cradle we donate to hospitals and grieving families, we follow a few important standards. Our policy is rooted in our desire to honor each precious baby and provide families with something we would want for our own child.

We are unable to accept cradles that:

  • Are made with unapproved yarns or embellishments
  • Do not follow our quality standard or finishing touches guidelines
  • Have been exposed to cigarette smoke or strong odors
  • Contain pet or human hair, either on the surface or woven into the fibers

These quality standards, along with detailed instructions and approved materials, are clearly outlined in the cradle patterns and guidelines each volunteer receives upon joining. If a cradle does not meet these standards, it may need to be discarded. In such cases, we will provide feedback to help you make any needed adjustments for future donations.

We are so grateful for your heart to serve and are here to support you in creating beautiful cradles that reflect the dignity every baby deserves.
We appreciate your thoughtfulness in wanting to meet our standards before committing—thank you!

All cradles must be made with 100% acrylic yarn in a weight 4 (medium). We require the use of specific neutral and pastel colors that are soft and comforting for grieving families.

When you sign up as a volunteer, you’ll receive a detailed list of approved yarn brands and color names to ensure consistency and quality across all donations.

Following our yarn guidelines helps us provide cradles that are beautiful, respectful, and suitable for hospital use. We're so grateful for your care in honoring these precious babies and their families.
We are so grateful for every cradle lovingly made—whether it’s one or one hundred! There is no minimum requirement or set schedule. You’re welcome to send cradles as often as you'd like, based on what works best for you.

Some volunteers enjoy making and sending cradles every month, while others spend several months creating a larger batch before mailing them in. It’s completely up to you. Every cradle makes a difference in the life of a grieving family, and we’re thankful for each one you send.
When you're ready to send your cradles, please place them directly into your box or mailer in neat, organized rows. There’s no need to fold, individually wrap, or bag each cradle—they can be placed in the box as is.

We recommend using a simple cardboard box or mailer, taped securely but not over-wrapped. This helps our team process your donation efficiently and ensures the cradles arrive in good condition.
Yes! You’ll receive an email from our team confirming and acknowledging each donation you send to Bridget’s Cradles. Please allow 1–2 weeks for processing, as each package is carefully opened, inspected, and logged by hand.

You’ll also be added to our monthly Volunteer E-Newsletter, where we share updates on our current needs (such as cradle sizes and colors we’re low on), along with stories and impact updates that show how your cradles are bringing comfort and hope to grieving families across the country.
Yes! We have a private Facebook group just for our knitting and crocheting volunteers (once you've sent in your first donation of cradles). It’s a wonderful place to share photos of your completed or in-progress cradles, ask questions, and connect with other volunteers from across the country. We’d love for you to join and be part of our incredible volunteer team!
While we’re unable to verify or sign off on individual hours, we can provide a statement showing how many cradles you donated and the dates we received them. You’re welcome to use this information to estimate your hours and submit your own summary if needed for school, service organizations, or volunteer records.
Yes, the cost of materials (such as yarn, shipping expenses, and other out-of-pocket supplies used to make cradles for Bridget’s Cradles) may be tax-deductible as a charitable contribution, since we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Be sure to save your receipts and consult with your tax advisor for proper documentation and eligibility based on your personal tax situation.

However, the value of your time or service hours is not tax-deductible under IRS guidelines. While your volunteer time is deeply appreciated, it cannot be claimed as a deduction.
