Do you live near Wichita and have experience in hand sewing? Join our local volunteer team and use your talents to bring comfort to grieving families.
As a Home Sewing Volunteer, you’ll help add finishing touches—like lace, ribbon, and charms—to our cradles from the comfort of your home. We provide all supplies, and cradle exchanges are done at our monthly work nights or at your own convenience at our headquarters in Kechi. The work of your hands will bless families in their most heartbreaking moments.
If you live near Wichita and enjoy helping behind the scenes, we’d love to have you as a Home Helper Volunteer. You’ll assist with non-sewing tasks like tagging cradles, threading ribbon, assembling hospital packets, and more—all from the comfort of your home.
We provide the supplies, and projects can be exchanged at our monthly work night or at your own convenience at our headquarters in Kechi. Your time and efforts will bless families and hospital staff nationwide.
Only basic hand sewing skills are needed—we do not use sewing machines. If you can sew a button onto clothing, you can do this! Each cradle includes a small cross hand-sewn at the foot, and some may have lace around the top or ribbon woven through the crochet stitch. We’ll provide clear instructions and support you every step of the way.
Yes, we provide all the main materials you'll need—this includes cradles, crosses, ribbon, and lace. You’ll just need to have your own basic sewing supplies such as scissors, hand-sewing needles, and thread.
Some volunteers choose to purchase their own crosses, charms, or lace to add a personal touch, which is welcome as long as it aligns with our guidelines. But purchasing your own materials is completely optional—we’re happy to provide what you need to get started.
There’s no set requirement—volunteer as your schedule allows. Each project you pick up is due back within a month, and you choose how many cradles to take home. You’re welcome to work at your own pace during that time. After turning in your completed cradles, you can pause or take time off whenever needed. We’re truly grateful for whatever time you’re able to give.
